DECAY key has been deformed for the most part to cover typical decays, which fall between 0.5 and 6 seconds. Unlike physical disks, the last 25% of the keystroke allows for much longer cooldowns. Physically, it probably isn’t accurate, but whatever. That’s pretty cool.
SIZE: This controls the “size” of the plate in arbitrary units. In particular, this controls the modal density of the plate. Smaller sizes (between 0% and 100%) produce a more metallic sound, as is typical for physical records. With larger sizes (> 100%) you can achieve a much higher modal density than with a typical plate, which can produce a “softer” or “brighter” reverberation.
WIDTH: Adjusts the stereo output width of the reverb. 100% corresponds to a typical reverb plate, in which each microphone goes to a separate output channel. 0% mixes the left and right outputs and sends them to the left and right output channels.
To be honest, I find this a bit strange, but the settings for WIDTH <100% can be useful to create a smaller stereo image. The WIDTH> 100% settings increase the perceived width of the image. It is not a conventional M / S matrix – the WIDTH controller has been optimized for Hall signals.
EQ / Low Freq: Sets the cutoff frequency of a shelving low filter of the first order at the output of the reverberation.
EQ / Low Gain: Sets the gain/attenuation of frequencies under the EQ Low Freq parameter. It is a gentle boost/cut and can be used to add clarity or weight to the reverb.
EQ / High Freq: Sets the cut-off frequency of a high shelving filter of the 1st order at the output of the reverberation.
EQ / High Gain: Adjusts the gain/attenuation of the frequencies above the EQ High Freq parameter. It’s a gentle boost / cut and can generate nice warmth when turned below 0 dB, or add a bit of sheen when turned above 0 dB.
MOD Rate: Controls the rate of reverb low-frequency modulation in Hertz. It’s a chorus modulation, but more subtle than the one I used in the previous reverb models. The purpose of modulation is to reduce metallic artifacts without creating obvious pitch or chorus changes in the output signal.
